Biography Dr. Michael Anderson is our keynote speaker for the 18th Pediatric Pharmacy Conference.
Dr. Anderson is Vice President and Associate Chief Medical Officer at University Hospitals and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Case Western Reserve School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. He is also a pediatric critical care specialist at Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital.
In his role as Associate Chief Medical Officer at UH, Dr Anderson is charged with oversight of quality, risk management, credentialing and medical staff offices. He also assists the CMO in the daily operations of the nine-hospital UH system.
As a pediatric specialist, Dr. Anderson has been active at the local, state and national level in pediatric disaster readiness and response. Currently, Dr Anderson is pooling the talent of Ohio’s six children’s hospitals to form a disaster response team to serve as a state and federal asset in the wake of future disasters. Through key partnerships at the state and federal levels, including the Ohio Children’s Hospital Association, the Ohio Hospital Association, the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Anderson is working to ensure that children’s needs are at the forefront of disaster medicine and create a disaster response team capable of caring for children during these times.
In addition to disaster preparedness and response, Dr. Anderson’s research and clinical interests include national physician workforce, pediatric critical care transport and national health policy issues for children. He has been awarded grant funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Emergency Medical Systems for Children (EMS-C). He has published on a variety of pediatric critical care topics including sepsis, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), care of the immunosupressed patient, and transport of the unstable pediatric patient. Dr Anderson has brought his expertise to three national committees for the AAP and served as the chair of the Committee on Pediatric Workforce from 2004 to 2006. In 2003, Dr. Anderson was appointed by the AAP to the United States Department of Health and Human Services/Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) expert panel on pediatric subspecialty workforce.
