Fellow in the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group (FPPAG)

Purposes

The Fellow in the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group (FPPAG) Recognition Program serves the following purposes:
  1. to recognize excellence in pediatric pharmacy practice; and
  2. to grant recognition and to promote public awareness of pharmacists who have distinguished themselves in pediatric pharmacy practice.
Authority

The FPPAG Recognition Program shall be conducted under the general authority of the PPAG Board of Directors. The Board shall approve all regulations pertaining to the operation of the Recognition Program.

Governance
 
FPPAG Recognition Committee: Function and Responsibilities
 
The program shall be administered by the FPPAG Recognition Committee, which shall be appointed by the Board of Directors, and shall have the following specific responsibilities, with respect to the FPPAG Program:
  1. to review and approve recognition eligibility criteria and, in general, to provide quality assurance for the program;
  2. to recommend for approval candidates for recognition as FPPAG of individuals to the Board of Directors.
  3. to recommend to the Board of Directors any future changes in these Guidelines.
General Criteria for Recognition

Candidate must demonstrate sustained practice excellence and professionalism in pediatric pharmacy practice for 10 years or greater.

Interpretation
  1. The term “candidate”, for purposes of this program, includes pharmacists who are members of PPAG for five (5) years and are members at the time of nomination.
  2. In fulfilling this criterion, it is expected that the level of demonstrated practice will reflect a commitment to practice excellence throughout his or her career. The candidate must provide sufficient documentation that a level of excellence has been achieved through sustained practice. For example, development, implementation, or enhancement of systems or programs (within the candidate's current or a previous practice site) that resulted in an improved level of practice. Particular emphasis shall be placed on innovation, creativity, and conceptualization of new or improved practice methods. Since it is recognized that these factors are not the exclusive basis upon which to determine practice excellence, other evidence submitted by the candidate that addresses this criterion will be considered.
  3. Each candidate must assure that at least three colleagues (practitioners, administrators, or academicians) can attest to the applicant’s professionalism and contributions as a pediatric practitioner
Candidate shall have contributed to the total body of knowledge in pediatric pharmacy practice.
Interpretation
 
The following may be submitted as evidence that the candidate has a record of contributing to the total body of knowledge in pharmacy practice.
  1. publication of scientific or professional papers on relevant topics of pharmacy and/or drug therapy in refereed journals (senior author or coauthor is acceptable); and/or publication of a textbook or a chapter(s) in a textbook(s) on some aspect of pharmacy and/or drug therapy; and/or
  2. presentations at professional meetings; and/or
  3. production or publication of educational aids on some aspect of pharmacy.
Candidate must be involved in and committed to educating practitioners in pediatric pharmacy practice and/or pharmacotherapy.

Interpretation
  1. Each candidate must be actively involved in educational programs. For example: a) making presentations to pediatric practitioners on topics that pertain to pediatric pharmacy practice; b) providing guidance to colleagues practice; c) precepting residents; d) mentoring staff; e) training technicians; f) conducting clerkship/rotations; g) educating students; and/or, h) educating the public.
Candidate must demonstrate active involvement and leadership in professional activities, especially the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group.

Interpretation
  1. Candidate must support the profession as evidenced by a record of consistent and active involvement and leadership in professional activities, such as membership and participation in PPAG. Some examples of activities in which a candidate may have participated are as follows:
    a. served as an elected officer of a national, state, regional, or local pharmacy organization;
    b. served as member of a pharmacy association policy recommending body;
    c. served as a member of a commission, committee, task force, or ad hoc group established by a national, state, regional or local pharmacy association;
    d. served as a reviewer, editorial board member, or editor for a national, professional refereed journal; and/or
    e. served as a reviewer of papers submitted for presentation at national pharmacy meetings.
Designation of FPPAG Recognition Status

A candidate achieving recognition shall be designated a "Fellow of the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group" (FPPAG). Candidates achieving FPPAG status shall be recognized at a ceremony, conducted on their behalf, during the PPAG Annual Meeting.

Application Process
  1. Members of the PPAG Board of Directors or FPPAG Recognition Committee are not eligible to apply during their term of office.
  2. Those interested in becoming a candidate must fill-out an online application at http://www.ppag.org/fppag_application/.
  3. All requests for applications submitted to PPAG will remain confidential. Materials submitted in support of a candidate's bid for recognition status shall not be received by anyone other than the members of the FPPAG Recognition Committee, or others involved in the review process.
  4. Candidates are required to have three (3) recommendations from colleagues who can support and attests the candidate’s qualification as a Fellow of PPAG. Individuals supporting a candidacy for FPPAG Recognition will fill out a recommendation form at http://www.ppag.org/fppag_recommendation/. Applications must be filled out prior to receipt of a recommendation. To this end, a colleagues writing on his or her behalf must not focus on one accomplishment only but, rather, must personally assess the extent to which the applicant's overall contributions have made a positive impact on pediatric pharmacy practice. If a letter is submitted it must address all areas contained in the on-line form. Candidate’s application must be submitted prior to submission of recommendations.
  5. Completed applications, including all supporting materials that address the specific criteria outlined for recognition status, can be submitted throughout the year. However, applications must be submitted on or before June 1 to be considered for the current calendar year. Only information contained in the application will be considered. The candidate has the burden of establishing that the criteria have been met. An application may be amended, expanded, or supplemented at any time until it is submitted to the FPPAG Recognition Committee; thereafter, no changes can be made.
  6. Acknowledgement of receipt of the application shall be sent to the candidate.
  7. The Executive Director of PPAG will submit completed files on all candidates to the FPPAG Recognition Committee on June 2 of each year.
  8. The FPPAG Recognition Committee will render its decision based only on the application materials and the criteria for recognition. Any member of the FPPAG Recognition Committee who feels that he/she cannot be objective in review and voting on an application should excuse him/herself from the discussion and voting on the applicant. In this case, if a tie vote occurs the decision will be referred to the Board.
  9. The FPPAG Recognition Committee shall meet the second week of June each year unless there are no candidates and no other business.
  10. The candidate will be notified in writing, of the FPPAG Recognition Committee decision following approval by the PPAG Board of Directors no later than July 1 of each year.
  11. Successful candidates will be recognized at a special ceremony conducted on their behalf.
