John Dice Memorial Student Scholarship

Background

In partnership with PPA, the Dice family, the Helms family, and the founding members of PPA established the first scholarship available only to pharmacy students. This award is named in memory of John Emil Dice, the son of Jim Dice, Pharm.D., FPPA, the 2006-07 Chair of the Board.Β  This award is for students who have demonstrated dedication to pediatric pharmacy practice and have expressed an interest in pursuing a career as a pharmacist specializing in pediatrics.

Eligibility Criteria

1. Applicant must be a student in good standing registered at an accredited college or school of pharmacy within the fifty states of the United States.
2. Applicant must be in their third year of pharmacy curriculum (or second professional year of a 3-year pharmacy curriculum) or last didactic year prior to clinical rotations.
3. Applicant must be a member in good standing of PPA and active in their college or school’s PPA student group if available.
4. Applicant must demonstrate a proven record of interest in pediatric pharmacy practice through elective class choices, experiential education, and internships.
5. Applicant must demonstrate a proven record of community outreach and/or service in programs that focus on the health and wellbeing of children.
6. Applicant must be a United States citizen.

Application Process

  1. Two (2) character references in the form of a letter of recommendation. The letters should attest to the applicant’s interest in pediatric pharmacy practice.
  2. An official copy of the applicant’s pharmacy school transcript
  3. A recent curriculum vitae or resume
  4. A personal essay (500 words or less): How has the care of children with illnesses made a meaningful impact in your life and your education?Β

Selection Criteria

Awarded based on the following considerations:

1. Involvement in PPA
2. Dedication to pediatric pharmacy is apparent through personal statement and letters of recommendations
3. Demonstrates well-rounded pediatric experience such as pediatric-focused internships, classes/rotations, projects, research experience, publications, and/or community service
