Student Group Guidelines and Policies

Student Group Recognition Program

  1. Purpose
    1. The PPA Local Community and Network Recognition Program serves the following purposes
      1. To recognize and support established student pediatric pharmacy groups affiliated with colleges/schools of pharmacy.
      2. To encourage the formation of student pediatric pharmacy groups affiliated with colleges/schools of pharmacy.
      3. To provide volunteer and leadership development opportunities at the student level.
      4. To recognize student efforts at a National level.
      5. To gain improved two-way communication at the grassroots level of the Association.
    2. The purpose of a Local Community includes, but is not limited to:
      1. Share effective and best practices, exchange ideas.
      2. Develop future leaders.
      3. Create localized student support.
      4. Develop ambassadors for pediatric pharmacy.
      5. Develop a local grassroots network for national public policy initiatives.
  2. Authority
    1. The PPA Student Recognition Program shall be conducted under the general authority of the PPA Board of Directors. The Board shall approve all regulations pertaining to recognition.
    2. However, Student shall be organized and β€œgoverned” within the guidelines of the colleges and/or universities.
  3. Definition of Local Community or Network
    1. Student Groups will not be formally defined by PPA. PPA will not govern Student Groups. However, each Group must submit a description to PPA.
    2. Student Groups will be financially independent of PPA.
  4. PPA Student Group Process
    1. Existing or new Student Groups may fill out aΒ form on the PPA website to request recognition as an β€œOfficial Student Group of PPA.”
    2. Each Student Group must describe its offerings and structure in writing.
    3. The PPA Board of Directors will render decisions at the next regular scheduled Board Meeting immediately following application submission.
    4. Student Groups will be independent from the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group. Local Communities will be able to:
      1. Use the PPA logo within the β€œAppropriate Use Guidelines” provided on the PPA website.
  5. Recognition Benefits
    1. Organize and meet under the PPA brand.
      1. Student Groups should use β€œPPA” in their official name.
      2. Student Groups may use the PPA logo on their official documents.
      3. Student Groups may use PPA in their official name; for instance, β€œThe New York PPAG Network.”
        1. Student Groups cannot negotiate on behalf of or represent PPA (national) when purchasing products and services (and visa versa).
        2. Student Groups cannot represent PPA, verbally or in writing (i.e. local media), unless prior written authority has been received by the PPA Board of Directors.
        3. Student Groups cannot publish position papers without prior written approval of the PPA Board of Directors.
    2. Access to MyPPA
      1. Student Groups will access eCommunities, listserv, and the shared Calendar of Events customized for each individual Group.
    3. Access to conference call line
      1. To use the PPA Conference Call line the meeting must be set up one month in advance and cleared with the PPA Office to guarantee that time is available
    4. Access to National Newsletter
      1. The Membership Committee will provide a section for Student Groups News and Events.
    5. Access to Membership Database
      1. The PPA Office can keep track of Student Group members within our membership database.
      2. Community membership will be self-reported within the membership forms (new and renewal).
